Vata Season Digestive Spices: A Seasonal Ayurvedic Guide
We have recently emerged from an eclipse sandwich, and it was definitely not for the weak.
Our strongest relationships have been tested, illusions painted in all areas of our lives, and boundaries raged strong. If you are reading this, congratulations — you made it with some sort of brain function still intact.
September brings a much more docile energy. Virgo season gives us the opportunity to re-evaluate our needs and goals — especially in relation to our health and home structure. Virgo nature helps us create structure and accountability in places we may have gone astray over this tumultuous fire horse year.

A Season of Balance
In a year where we have literally set wild horses ablaze (ironic, no?), this upcoming month Venus is in the sign of Libra — bringing balance and equality. According to my friend Annette, a Jyotisha of Chandra Ayurveda & Astrology, Mercury is also exalted while in the sign of Virgo (its own ruling planet). According to her astute assessment:
“This can bring an explosion of business activity, financial transactions, information, craftsmanship, music, and communication in all forms. Mercury in Virgo is precise, organized, and highly discerning, with extremely high ideals and expectations. There’s a strong desire to get things in order, pay attention to the details, and do things well.”
Sounds so good, right? I feel like for the first time this year, I am finally firmly planted in my body. That being said, we are also in the transition to Vata Season, and in order to stay grounded, we must carefully pay close attention to grounding practices and our nervous systems. This flurry of new energy is exciting and brings much movement — taking extra care to attune to moving slowly and deliberately can do wonders as you expand in other ways.

Vata-Pacifying Spices for the Season
Here are Vata-pacifying spices that you can easily cook into your foods or combine into a warm evening tea:

Ginger
One of the most beneficial spices for Vata due to its warming and stimulating qualities. It helps support healthy digestion, improves circulation, and can ease bloating and gas.
Cinnamon
Naturally warming, grounding, and comforting. It supports healthy circulation and digestion while helping to balance the cold and dry qualities associated with Vata.
Turmeric
Valued in Ayurveda for its balancing and supportive qualities. It helps maintain healthy digestion, supports circulation, and promotes overall wellness.
Cardamom
A gentle digestive spice that helps soothe bloating and discomfort while supporting mental clarity and calm.
Fennel
Known for its ability to reduce gas, bloating, and digestive irregularity. Its mildly sweet and warming properties help support digestion.
Cumin
Helps kindle digestive fire (agni). Its warming qualities support digestive health, reduce feelings of heaviness, and help bring stability.

A 2 Hour Ayurvedic & Embodied Nervous System Reset
A seasonal workshop designed to help participants transition into fall with greater grounding, nourishment, and awareness. Through the wisdom of Ayurveda, embodied movement, breathwork, and sound healing, participants will explore practices for balancing Vata season, supporting digestion, and shifting the nervous system out of constant doing and into a state of greater rest and restoration.
The experience combines education + discussion + embodiment + deep rest, giving participants practices that will allow them to ground into the flurry of energy that is fall season.
